Japanese billionaire named Yusaku Maezawa is rumored to be the first passenger of SpaceX‘s StarsX rocket that will fly to the Moon in 2023. But recently, Maezawa claimed that he could not make the trip due to bankruptcy. It is indeed, very surprising for every people; including us.
Reporting from the Medical Daily page on Tuesday, May 7th 2019, Maezawa has a wealth of approximately USD 1.9 billion at the beginning of 2019. However, he admitted that he had lost USD 700 million from the initial amount mentioned before.
“Yes, I have never had money because I always spend it,” Maezawa said in his Twitter post.
But Maezawa’s seriousness seems doubtful, because he added a laughing emoji after the statement. The reduction of USD700 million does not seem that much either, because he still has above USD 1 billion saved on his pocket.
His wealth is quite a big deal as his name is registered on Forbes list. It was recorded at up to USD 3 billion in September 2018. Maezawa has a particular interest for arts and he even spent $ 98 million over two days to buy expensive artwork at Sotheby’s and Christie’s. He also spent USD 110.5 million to break paintings by American painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Last year, Maezawa bought a ticket as a private passenger on the first Space X tourism plane. It is still unknown whether SpaceX will return the money if he admits to being bankrupt.
Even so, he will surround the Moon above the StarsX spacecraft in 2023, which carries the crew, the top level Starship or Super Heavy; if he join the flight for real. This circumlunar mission will take five days and 23 hours to complete.
Maezawa said he would bring six to eight artists with him as part of an art project he created called #dearMoon. Maezawa’s journey will be the first mission to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
Will Maezawa decided to join the Space Journey, or will he retreat? We are going to have the answer; sooner or later.
