Nubia Alpha Big Debut on MWC.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 is brimming with folding screen gadgets. The exhibition comes from various world famous brands, one of them is Nubia, a subrand from ZTE.
At MWC 2019, Nubia shows off Alpha, a “smartphone” that can be worn on the wrist.
Specifications and Details.
The Nubia Alpha is equipped with a flexible OLED display which has a resolution of 960 x 192. Its internal specifications is akin to a low-end smartphone. The device uses the Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor which is accompanied by 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory.
Interestingly for the Alpha Nubia operating system using a custom Android version, instead of Wear OS like most smart watches today. The use of a custom version of Android, Nubia explained.
Allows users to run Android applications on smart watches. Lets the user scroll the essential information displayed on the watch face so it’s readable from any angle.
The watch’s OS is navigated using a group of simplified icon menus, where all the options are tiled in a row. Users will have to swipe left and right to move between lists of apps grouped by functionality.
Tap to select the app, and pinch to go back to the previous menu. There are also a couple of physical buttons on the side of the device. One to reset the display back to home menu, and the other seems to be designated for voice control.
Alpha’s capable of standard smartwatch functionality such as fitness tracking, mobile payments (though only the Chinese QR code payment service AliPay was mentioned), and voice calls.
Either through its built-in speaker or a connected Bluetooth headset. In addition, the device also has a 5 MP camera facing the front to accommodate video chat.
Although Alpha cannot be folded like the Galaxy Fold or Huawei Mate X, it is flexible enough to wrap the wrist and be equipped like a regular watch.
The advantage of this smart watch compared to the usual is that you have a larger surface to interact, not just square or circular. In addition, the device also has space to display more information, buttons and more.

Nubia Alpha Availability and Release.
The unique device from ZTE will not only be available in China. ZTE plans to sell this wearable smartphone in Europe and the United States (US).
European and US markets get Bluetooth models. Whereas in China, it actually gets an eSIM version of the device. ZTE’s Subrand promises to bring the eSIM model available world wide.
Nubia Alpha released on April 25, 2019 with a price tag of 449 USD. The first buyer will receive the Explore Package with Alpha bundles.
