Apple has recently often reportedly wanted to develop its own modem. One way Apple can develop its modem is to buy a chip maker.
In a report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple and Intel actually had time to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring the Intel modem business. The deal is worth billions of dollars.
However, the talks have stopped recently. Quoting Ubergizmo, Saturday (04/27/2019), this is interesting because Apple claimed to be struggling to find a supplier for the 5G component for its future iPhone.
Because of the court quarrel between Apple and Qualcomm, iPhone manufacturers were forced to search for other suppliers for their future devices. Luckily, a lawsuit between Apple and Qualcomm has ended recently.
Intel modem bussiness
Qualcomm was reported being supplying its technology to Apple for 2020’s iPhone products. Interestingly, after Qualcomm reportedly decided to supply the modem to Apple, Intel said it was withdrawing from the smartphone modem business.
According to Intel CEO Bob Swan, the company has concluded there is no more money in business after Apple and Qualcomm resolve their dispute.
As is known, Intel is the only supplier for the iPhone XS and XR because of legal battles that have occurred between Qualcomm and Apple that have been running for a long time.
