The man that pioneered the battle royale sensation and was the main reason why everyone shifted to this genre, is moving from the game that bears his name. Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene is leaving PlayerUnknown’s battlegrounds to work on a new division within the PUBG Corp called ‘PUBG Special Projects’.
After five years of hard work that revolutionalized the battle royale genre, Greene is handing over the development of PUBG to Taeseok Jang, the previous art director of the game.
Greene is moving to Amsterdam from Seoul to lead the special PUBG team project. He’ll still remain as consulting creative director for PUBG. When asked about his new role, Greene commented:
“We are assigned with exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies, tools, pipelines, and gameplay; but for me, it is more than that. Together with a team of game developers and researchers, we will explore new possibilities of interaction and connection within the game space.”
Greene appears to be doing research on the next big thing, since the last-man-standing genre is slowly being saturated with other games like Fortnite, Apex Legends and many more.
