The main reason for this decision is PS Vita purchase rate is decreasing from time to time. Last year, Sony’s senior executive Hiroyuki Oda said that the demands and sales of PS Vita was rolling downhill. He also said that Sony hasn’t planned any plans nor solutions for the said product.
The ‘extinction’ signal from PS Vita has been detected since 2013, in which Sony didn’t describe about PS Vita’s exact sales rate. After that, Sony never released it either into the list of Sony’s annual income per year.
The game produced for PS Vita only had also been stopped since 2015. Following those steps, Sony decided not to produce physical game card for PS Vita on March 31st 2018.
Since the day PS Vita was released in 2011, Sony had never actually distributed it and sold it to anywhere but their origin country. The popularity of smartphones even crushed PS Vita’s market which only can sell 16.1 million units in total.
The doom for this gaming machine is not over yet. The birth of Nintendo Switch become a big hit, even bigger that also crushed PS Vita’s popularity into crumbs. So, will this year be an end to the era of PS Vita?
